BCH Auxiliary Announces Scholarships

For the 2009-2010 academic year, the Bucyrus Community Hospital Auxiliary announces one new and two renewed allied medical college one thousand dollar scholarship recipients and one graduating scholarship recipient.
Margaret Kanney, daughter of Bernard and Kelly Kanney of New Washington, is awarded this year’s Auxiliary scholarship. Maggie, a 2009 Buckeye Central High School graduate, was in National Honor Society, received numerous awards for marching, pep, and jazz bands, wind ensemble, and show and concert choirs, and musical theater participation, and she has been a four year varsity cross country and three year varsity softball athlete. She was a 2008 Buckeye Girls State delegate and she won the state American Legion History award, including an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C. and Gettysburg. In New Washington, she has participated in the town band and recycling days and she has helped in numerous church activities and in the library’s summer reading program. She will attend the University of Toledo, where she anticipates a nursing major.
Joe Kaple, son of Walter and Ella Kaple of New Washington, a 2005 Buckeye Central High School graduate and a four year Auxiliary scholarship recipient, will graduate this summer with a bachelor’s in nursing from University of Toledo.
Lacey Shumate, daughter of Steve and Robin Shumate of Bucyrus and a 2006 Colonel Crawford High School graduate, will receive her fourth scholarship, and she has just completed her third year of the six year Doctorate of Pharmacy degree at Ohio Northern University.
Kelsey Binau, daughter of Suzanne and the late Kevin Binau of Bucyrus and a 2008 Colonel Crawford High School graduate, will receive her second scholarship, and she is an honors student in the pre-medicine program at Loyola University Chicago.
All Bucyrus Community Hospital Auxiliary scholarship applicants must be Buckeye Central, Bucyrus, Colonel Crawford, or Wynford High School seniors who aspire to allied medical, medical or dental careers. Each applicant must submit an application obtained through the high school guidance counselors and interview with the Auxiliary Scholarship Committee.
